I can’t wait to go back and visit some of the places I missed on my first visit. I’m a wanderer. I hopped on trams just to see the city and at one point wound up in Amstelveen, which was a lovely change from Amsterdam itself.

I made a point to visit the Museum Van Loon. It was lovely and proof that one can live well without flaunting one’s wealth and a canal tour is always good. I recommend seeking out smaller tours. I went with Those Dam Boat Guys. Small boats and the guides were very funny, irreverent, and gave a bit of a local perspective.

NDSM Werf is also kind of interesting to wander around. It’s the former NDSM shipyards converted to… I’m not really sure. Part abandoned place, part business incubator, part artist colony?

This post is meant to be a little bit more universal and uses pre-COVID information since everything right now is temporary. I spent 3 years in Europe. I traveled everywhere and Amsterdam was one of the more memorable cities. Be sure to check out Volendam as well but don’t visit in the winter like I did. I went in January and I don’t think I’ve ever been so cold.

One of my favorite cities in the world. I hope to live there someday soon. Canal tours and walking around the Jordaan are my favorite things to do. Thanks for sharing, it definitely makes me miss the city!

Amsterdam sounds really cool. My wife and I together have rarely been out of the country, and now with Covid-19, we are not really going anywhere. But hopefully someday soon we will all be traveling again.
