This place is a funky, easy place only steps from Hermosa Beach pier. Paddle surf lessons nearby. Rent a bike and ride to Venice Beach, walk to Manhattan beach. More laid back than Santa Monica. Price was a little cheaper than the above list. I haven’t been for a while, but probably still worth checking out.
