I know it’s a personal choice, but do you recommend the standard or the explorer package? I figured if you bring a computer and an iPhone, you might as well get the explorer. However, I didn’t know if it’s really worth the extra $100 or that is some dollars that I can save.

Matt, when you are looking into the above post, can you verify that the World Nomads coverage of $2500 for Trip Interruption will cover Costa Rica’s $2000 requirement for extended lodging expenses for quarantine in the event of COVID? I bought a policy today for our trip based on an email I got back from World Nomads saying they will cover additional accommodation expenses if you must extend your trip due to a physician certifying you cannot fly home due to sickness. Yet I’m getting conflicting information everywhere whether Costa Rica will accept this (even here above). Thank you.

I started using World Nomads because of this article a few years ago but I think things have changed with them since the pandemic and they are really awful now. I recently bought a policy to travel to Costa Rica, which currently requires certain insurance minimums to travel there. I bought a policy through world nomads expecting it would meet those minimums since you can’t travel there without them. Kind of like how when you by car insurance it has to meet state minimums. Anyway, I had to spend hours getting through to an actual person on the phone and when I finally did I asked them if I could pay extra to meet the minimums or if I could have a refund and they will not do either. I haven’t even started my policy yet. I ended up having to buy other insurance on top of this insurance which is a major bummer. It also appears that they pick and choose who they give refunds to since my friend who bought the same policy as me was told she will be issued a refund. I get that they are probably struggling for money due to the pandemic but we all are and when you treat your customers well they will return. If you treat them badly they go elsewhere and tell everyone how awful you are.
