The title is such click bait. Of course we have to read the entire thing to see he DIDN’T save 15k on 9 an hour: he saved it on 9 an hr for 40 hours and 13.50 an hour for an additional 20 hours more each week.
I wish writers wouldn’t do click bait. I learned nothing but “work yourself to the bone” and “hope your boss even let’s you work 5 min past clock out time much less 20 hours overtime”
Of course our traveler is very young. He could easily work 60 hrs a week. I’m 46 and exhausted and make $10 an hour doing quality assurance at a factory, and there’s no traveling (or retirement. What’s that?!) in my future. Too late for me to get any good paying career AND move up the ladder AND save enough to retire. My life is set in stone and maybe I’ll see ya when I’m 92 greeting you at Walmart. The youth need to be financially secure by age 32 so they can retire in their 40s.
]]>This post kind of puts me to shame a little bit, it makes me realise how much more I could save if I wanted to. Yes I live in London, one of the most expensive cities in the world but I’m on a decent wage and could certainly make more of a dent in my savings.
One of the issues for me is that I’m 31 and have been travelling (long term) once before, so now am being scolded for considering using my savings for travel rather than buying a house. I do wonder how long term travellers balance future security (house, pension etc) with spending on travel.

Either you saved a hundred percent of your income and you have no bills or the math is off.
Hi Addam,
We will be in Warsaw on a stopover for 7 hours Sept 29th. I can’t wait! Any suggestions?
Great job 🙂
